Plasma HDTV
PX80 Series
Imagine the handsome 42" or 50" Panasonic Plasma as the
centerpiece of your home theater. Its clean, space-efficient
design is definitely living room ready. And when you switch it on,
you'll enjoy one of the best high-definition pictures available.
Panasonic understands this technology inside and out they build
more plasma TVs than anyone else in the world.
For a lifelike picture, it's hard to beat plasma
Video experts know that a TV's contrast ratio the difference
between its brightest whites and
deepest blacks contributes as much to overall picture quality as
screen resolution. The TH-50/42PX80U series uses Panasonic's
11th-generation panel technology, which raises the contrast ratio
to 15,000:1. Images have more punch and snap, plus more realistic
shadow detail.
Panasonic plasmas are also known for their rich, realistic
color. The TH-50/42PX80U series can reproduce over 4,000
shades of gradation each for red, green, and blue. That yields
a nearly infinite color palette of over 68 billion
shades, to virtually eliminate the common picture distortion
known as "false contouring." It causes the transitions between
different shades of the same color to appear too sharp and
abrupt, giving scenes an artificially layered look. Images on
this TV look effortlessly smooth, with beautifully natural
skin tones.
All the right connections for great HD viewing
The PX80's can receive local over-the-air analog and digital
signals (antenna required). And cable TV subscribers can tune
in unscrambled channels including local HD network channels
in many areas without the added hassle and expense of a
set-top box. For 2008, Panasonic has added a third HDMI input,
making it easy to connect top-notch sources like an
upconverting DVD player or Blu-ray player, and an HD satellite
receiver.

PZ80 Series
The New Panasonic PZ80 Series starts with a state-of-the-art
1080p plasma panel that makes the most of today's best high-def
sources. In addition to pinpoint clarity, a great picture needs
outstanding contrast and black levels. The big news here is that
by tightly controlling the light output of each plasma cell,
Panasonic has increased the contrast ratio to a remarkable
20,000:1. And an all-new anti-reflective filter cuts down on
distracting screen reflections of room lights.
Why 1080p matters
If you look at all of the high-definition programs available from
broadcast, cable, and satellite TV
sources, you'll find that most of them use the 1080i format 1920
x 1080 pixels. The PZ80's screen is a pixel-perfect match so
you won't miss any details. By comparison, "720p" plasmas must
downconvert 1080i signals, throwing away a significant amount of
picture information. The downconverted image still looks crisp and
clear, but there's definitely less fine detail.
Built-in HD tuners for over-the-air reception
The PZ80's built-in analog/digital tuner can pull in every
type of over-the-air TV broadcast, including gorgeous,
free HDTV (antenna required). In addition, the set's "QAM"
tuner conveniently allows cable TV subscribers to watch most
unscrambled channels without the need for a set-top box
including local network HD channels in many areas.
Clever connections that do more
The generous array of audio/video connections includes three
HDMI digital inputs for hooking up the latest high-def
components. If you're using other recent Panasonic HDMI-equipped
components, the VIERA Link control system enables you to
operate compatible models like a Panasonic Blu-ray Disc
player using only the TV's remote. A front-panel memory card
slot makes it easy to show off your digital photos on a big,
beautiful screen and without booting up your computer.

PZ85 Series
No company has done more to refine plasma TV picture quality
while also lowering prices than Panasonic. The PZ85 series
delivers a stellar picture, yet is one of their more affordable
1080p models. For 2008, Panasonic's #1 goal was improving picture
contrast. The "PZ85" models display
strikingly cinematic images with velvety blacks and an ultra-high
contrast ratio of 30,000:1. And that's the "native" contrast
ratio, which is a better indicator of real-world performance than
the more common "dynamic" contrast spec.
Built-in tuners for over-the-air reception
The PZ85's built-in analog/digital tuner can pull in every type of
over-the-air TV broadcast, including gorgeous, free HDTV
(antenna required). In addition, the set's "QAM" tuner
conveniently allows cable TV subscribers to watch most unscrambled
channels without the need for a set-top box including local
network HD channels in many areas.
